About Hydroflite
Safety is the top priority at Hydroflite
Safety
The motto of any real rocket scientist is:    If it isn't safe, don't do it!    Safety is the number one priority at Hydroflite. We have tried to make the Hydroflite launch system just as safe as possible. Please follow these guidelines when using any Hydroflite product:

  1. Use common sense.*
  2. Use only undamaged plastic soda pop bottles (water bottles or milk cartons have not been designed to hold pressure).
  3. Inspect your bottle after EVERY launch for damage.  Don't use if damaged.
  4. Inspect launch stand for damage. Don't use if damaged
  5. NEVER touch the bottle after pressurization has begun.
  6. NEVER stand or lean over the bottle after pressurization has begun.
  7. DO NOT hold or touch the launcher after pressurization has begun.
  8. Use only in a wide open space clear of  power lines or other obstacles.
  9. NEVER aim or point the bottle at anyone or anything.
  10. DO NOT  allow anyone to come within 5 feet of the launcher after pressurization has begun.

* Common sense seems to be quite uncommon for many people.

The main hazards associated with all water rockets (not just Hydroflite's) are: high velocity impact and pressure vessel rupture.  The Hydroflite water rocket reaches a maximum acceleration of 247 G's. That is 82 times the acceleration of the space shuttle. The maximum velocity is over 200 miles per hour and you don't want anything traveling that fast hitting you. Just keep clear of the danger zone (directly above the rocket) and you will be fine.

Bottle rupture is the other possible hazard.  The PET plastic bottles are designed to hold pressure and are proof tested to 170 psi at the factory. The bottles loose structural integrity as they get damaged by crunching or collapsing. When a plastic bottle does rupture, high speed fragments may be projected. Most of the time, the bottle stays in 1 or 2 large pieces. Only rarely do you get a small fragment. If the pressure is increased gradually, as with the Hydroflite system, leakage will occur before catastrophic failure (rupture).
The Hydroflite launch system has an automatic release mechanism that virtually eliminated the possibility of bottle rupture (when following the instructions). The bottle is not restrained by any secondary latch or pin so the bottle will launch before rupture can occur. The launch stand is also designed to hold twice the rupture pressure of the bottle and as a result, the launch stand cannot rupture before the bottle.

When used according to instructions, the Hydroflite launch system is safe, fun, and exciting!!
